Ongoing accounting for UK businesses and international founders
Formation is only the starting point. KBA helps UK businesses and international founders organise the records, reporting calendar and ongoing accounting work that follow, with the exact jurisdictions and responsibilities agreed before work begins.
What ongoing accounting can cover
Agree the accounting scope before the first deadline. Company formation, a registered-agent service, bookkeeping and tax filings are separate responsibilities. A useful handover records who owns each task and which records are needed.
- Opening records: formation documents, ownership, tax identifiers, accounting period, opening capital, founder loans and formation costs.
- Monthly bookkeeping: bank and payment-processor feeds, sales, expenses, payroll, taxes, related-party transfers and supporting evidence.
- Management reporting: an agreed close date, reconciliations, profit and loss, balance sheet, cash position and a short exceptions list.
- Statutory and tax calendar: filings, payments, annual reports and notices, with the responsible person and review date recorded for each jurisdiction.
- Year-end handover: final reconciliations, fixed assets, debt, inventory, accruals, owner balances and the information needed by each return preparer.
International-founder handover checklist
- List every entity, jurisdiction, owner, trading location, accounting period and tax classification already confirmed.
- Record the registered agent or company secretary separately from the accountant, including where official notices are routed.
- Map each bank, card, marketplace and payment processor to the legal entity that earns the income or incurs the cost.
- Separate company obligations from the founder’s personal, residence-country and ITIN or SSN position.
- Agree a secure document route, monthly cut-off, review contact and escalation process before sending confidential records.
Illustrative example — not a client case or filing conclusion: a UK-resident founder forms a single-member US LLC on 1 July 2026. Before recurring work is agreed, the handover records the LLC’s federal classification, year end, owner contributions, bank and processor records, state obligations and whether Form 5472 with a pro forma Form 1120 applies. The founder’s UK personal reporting is scoped separately. See KBA’s US-company service map and foreign-owned LLC filing guide.
What remains separate
- A registered agent receives specified official communications; that role does not by itself provide bookkeeping or tax-return preparation.
- Bank and payment-account approval remains with the provider. Document preparation is not an approval guarantee.
- Company accounts do not automatically resolve the founder’s personal tax or residence-country reporting.
- Legal, tax, audit, assurance and regulated valuation work must be separately identified where the facts require it.
Source check — 29 October 2026. For a UK private company, Companies House normally requires annual accounts nine months after the financial year end; HMRC normally requires Corporation Tax payment nine months and one day after the accounting period and the Company Tax Return within 12 months. First-account and large-company rules can differ. IRS instructions state that a foreign-owned US disregarded entity with reportable related-party transactions may need Form 5472 attached to a pro forma Form 1120 by the applicable due date. Classification, exceptions, state duties and the owner’s own filings require fact-specific review. Official guidance: UK accounts and tax returns; IRS Form 5472 instructions.
